How do my ratings work?

Ben Franks tastes wine
My ratings are a guide to how much pleasure a wine gives me.

I only review wines I enjoy. I’m not a big fan of scoring wines but to give you an idea of what I liked best, I do give my tastings a rating of ★☆☆☆☆ to ★★★★★

When giving the rating I take into account the wine’s style, price, branding and overall enjoyment. Hopefully this rating system lets you compare wine to wine.

However, it’s worth bearing in mind that a) all taste is subjective and so my ratings are only valuable to you if our tastes align; and b) a 5 star vintage Champagne is not necessarily equivalent to a 5 star bargain buy red. The context is, of course, different. What it means is that both the vintage fizz and the bargain red gave me equal pleasure.

If you have any questions about my ratings or you’d like to submit your wine or spirit for review, you can get in touch here.
