Hails from: Bordeaux, France; Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Garnet orange colour showing some age. Viscous. The nose is blackcurrants, star anise, plum, pepper and farmhouse. Everything you expect from good, maturing Merlot. On the palate the tannins are thick and coarse. It’s certainly full bodied with cocoa, blackcurrant and ripe plum notes. Finish is long with hints of coffee and liquorice. For me it needs a fatty meat to take the edge off and I imagine it’s a delightful wine choice with lamb.
