Jose Maria da Fonseca FSF Fernando Soares Franco 2001

★★★★☆
(how do my ratings work?)

Hails from: Douro, Portugal; Grapes: Syrah, Trincadeira and Tannat

Deeply coloured Douro red. Full, ripe nose of kirsch, dried cherries and wood spice. Smooth, velvety tannins and a good bite of acidity. I’ve caught this one a little too old as there’s mostly only secondary flavours left. The fruit has diminished but the wine is nonetheless superb. The finish is long and layered with caramel, spice and dried fruit.
