Hails from: Tuscany, Italy; Grapes: Sangiovese
Deep cherry red colour with a nose of cooked black cherry, sponge, vanilla, cassis and leather. Needs at least an hour to open up. Grati’s Chianti Riserva is textually smooth, succulent and medium bodied. Leads with flavours of sour cherry, raspberry-like tartness and then onto cocoa and blackcurrant jam in the mid-palate. The finish is med-long, showcasing tertiary notes of leather, warming pepper and a creamy finish. The alcohol is a tame 13%, which is nicely balanced with the fruit. Limited run of 3,000 bottles – I tasted no. 1204 and it was a good one!
