Lismore Estate Barrel Fermented Sauvignon Blanc 2016

★★★☆☆
(how do my ratings work?)

Hails from: Western Cape, South Africa. Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc

As my readers know, I got a taste for fumé-style wines after trying the Furleigh Estate Bacchus Fumé and Oliver Zeter’s Sauvignon Fumé, so I was excited to taste this wine from Samantha O’Keefe, who is an exceptional winemaker. I’m not disappointed; this wine is a plush, full and fruity white with intense passion fruit, gooseberry and smoked cream. There’s a sweetness to it, which at 3.9g/l residual sugar is probably from the ripeness of the fruit rather than actual sugar, but it’s still fresh and stylish. Worth a punt!
