Hails from: Greyton, South Africa. Grapes: Chardonnay
Samantha O’Keefe is a great winemaker. Need proof? Taste this wine. I’ve tried a lot of Chardonnay and to make such a restrained, elegant style in South Africa is amazing. The fruit is harvested from vineyards 300m above sea level in the foothills of Sonderend Mountain range in Greyton. With an extended ripening period, the fruit is bursting with character. The grapes are whole bunch pressed slowly, cold-settled for two days and then racked into Burgundian barrels. Just over a third of the barrels are new. This careful balance leads to intense fruit (apple, Mediterranean citrus) balanced with honeysuckle, vanilla, butter and white flowers. The ripeness of the fruit makes it rounded and indulgent. Just marvellous.
