(how do my ratings work?)
Hails from: Greyton, South Africa. Grapes: Syrah
Winemaker Samantha O’Keefe has pioneered viticulture in the cool climate region of Greyton in Western Cape, South Africa. The vines are planted at 300m above sea level at the bottom of the Sonderend Mountain Range on shale and clay soils. This cool climate gives her Reserve Syrah a Cote-Rotie appeal: it’s a structured wine with a richly fruity nose but a complex, layered palate. Big black fruits are the first thing you enjoy before the finish lingers with violets and pepper. It’s a powerful wine in the mouth but somehow remains graceful once you’ve sunk it down. This is my favourite South African Syrah to date.
