Tesco wine guide

Each month I taste many wines from across the UK’s top supermarkets. In this guide I look at wines from Britain’s biggest supermarket, Tesco. Each month I choose three of the very best and update this list. You can view the best wines from this month first and then explore the rest of my wine recommendations from months gone by below. Load up this guide the next time you’re shopping online at Tesco.com or in store.

How do I rate the wines?

The star ratings work much like the Michelin system. No stars, no mention, but if a wine makes it onto this list it will have:

– ★ A star, meaning I recommend it as a ‘Good wine’ you should pick up. If you like the sound of my tasting note, grab a bottle on your next shop.
– ★★ 2 star is a ‘Great wine’ wine you should really seek out. If you want something new, go find one of these!
– ★★★ 3 star is a rare ‘Outstanding wine’, which is a bottle you won’t forget. This is worth making a trip to the shops just for the wine.

Tesco wine picks for September 2026

Tesco pick - Trivento Malbec

Fantastic value Malbec

2024 Malbec, Trivento

★★ Great Wine

I was pleasantly surprised that a brand as huge as Trivento could make such a fabulous wine. This Malbec, made from Mendoza fruit, is plush and silky with packs of blackberry and plum fruit. Its soft finish is satisfyingly pure without any of those horrid over extractive or gummy fining notes you get in other value Malbecs.

£9.00

White wine pick from Tesco in September is Pikes Riesling

Wonderful, zippy Aussie Riesling

2025 Traditionale Riesling, Pikes

★ Good Wine

Pikes is an Aussie classic but it’s a label I only tried for the first time last year. This Riesling isn’t sweet, it’s a dry and pure style from the Clare Valley made from high quality free run juice. The wine’s brimming with citrus and it pairs so well with white fish or goat’s cheese.

£13.00

Rose pick for Tesco this month is the Sancerre Rose

Last of the summer rosé

2025 Sancerre Rosé, Tesco Finest

★★ Great Wine

Am I in my Sancerre pink era? I seem to keep falling for rosé from this Loire appellation in northern France. As Sancerre struggles with its recent vintages, the winner seems to be its rosé wines. The Pinot Noir grape makes for a fresh, bright and wild style of rosé I’m really enjoying!
