Ben says
★★ Great Wine “My word this is a big wine. Gutsy and meaty on the nose with dried black fruits, spice, vanilla, violets and smoke. It’s anything but shy and the tannins are still grippy and ripe, 12 years on. On the palate it’s fresh and full of life. A great example of St Estephe winemaking.“
KEY POINTS
55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc with 13.0% abv. 2011 was a difficult vintage for much of Bordeaux, but this wine seems to have turned it into gold. Matured in French oak for 18 months (of which 30-50% is new oak).
Grown in: Bordeaux, FRANCE.
Food Pairing
A good, mature and full bodied red wine like this deserves a slow-cooked meal like braised beef and mash, or a delicious heart-warming swede, potato and dumpling stew with torn off fresh bread. Hungry yet?
