Ben says

★★ Great Wine Show stopper wines are punchy by nature. This Chenin Blanc certainly kicks off proceedings that way with peaches, mangoes and lemon thyme bursting out the glass. It’s saline, grippy and zesty on the palate, leaner than I had expected on the nose, but nonetheless it lingers in a satisfying, almost opulent way. Bittersweet pink grapefruit comes by on the finish. This is a great showing of Chenin.

Guerrieri Rizzardi '3 Cru' Amarone della Valpolicella Red Wine

KEY POINTS

Varietal Chenin Blanc with 13.5% abv. Vines were planted in 1977. Only aged, neutral oak was used.

Grown in: Swartland, SOUTH AFRICA.

Food Pairing

Bold, fruity Chenin? Pair it with a little sweetness and heart-warming home cooked food. Pumpkin or squash risotto comes to mind, as does a chicken thigh stew. My mouth is watering thinking about it.

Disclosure & Price

Tasted blind during a study session. Find in the UK for circa £30.00 but only newer vintages seem available. See: Davy’s.
