Ben says
★ Good Wine “This wine’s still too young. If you drink it now like I did, then you’re going to be greeted with an odd nose that is somehow both closed with cabbage-like tones AND incredibly aromatic with sweetly perfumed guava, orange and cream. It drifts between the two like a joust. On the palate is bold and satisfying, as you’d want from a Marg River Chardonnay with peachy fruit and brioche tones. If you’ve bought a bottle, do yourself a favour and don’t drink it yet! Give it another 4 or so years. “
KEY POINTS
Varietal Chardonnay with 13.5% abv. Fruit is selected from five parcels across the Willyabrup estate with an average vine age of over 30 years. Most of the Chardonnay is thought to be the gin-gin clone with its heritage in Mersault, France. The wine is oaked.
Grown in: Margaret River, AUSTRALIA.
Food Pairing
Try with a roast turkey and all the trimmings but only lightly chill the wine and let it come to temperature at the table as you feast. You’ll get more of the flavours and its fresh acidity will be delightful as you tuck in.

About the Producer
Pierro was established by the winemaker Dr. Michael Peterkin of Roseworthy Agricultural College. The Pierro vineyard and its cellars were planted and built in 1980. His vineyard was the first to practice high density planting in Australia, a practice used to encourage vine competition at their roots, and therefore the intensity of flavour in their grapes. The vineyards were planted at 2-3x the average Australian vineyard’s density.
