★ Good Wine “Premier Cru Burgundy is usually pricey, especially if it’s good. This one isn’t – pricey, that is. The aromas of black tea, liquorice, dried plum, dried cranberry and pomegranate, with that slightly umami mushroom note, feels complex and intriguing. But while some sniffs smell like that, others smell a bit like play-dough. I’m still not really sure why. Its juicy and fruity mouthfeel is overshadowed by dusty potpourri and strangely minty, astringent tannins. It’s good Burgundy, especially at this price, but the oxidative winemaking all feels a bit hammy and disappointing for it to be complimented without reiterating the price-to-Burgundy-premier-cru clause.“
