Ben says
★ Good Wine “It seems a bit wrong to open a 2019 Barolo. I want it to rest. Having said that these modern styles of Barolo are being made in a different way and you can often approach them earlier and discover something different. This one is still a little tight and closed, it needs time to open. Sour cherry, toast and vanilla aromas come through. The palate is fairly linear, but there’s a mix of cherries, dark chocolate, spice and fresh acidity that brings a fair length. Good flavour, just needs time.“
KEY POINTS
Varietal Nebbiolo with 14.0% abv. Fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel for 20 days. Matured in oak for 18 months.
Grown in: Barolo DOCG, Piedmont, ITALY.
Food Pairing
I enjoyed this with venison and bone marrow ragu on beef dripping sourdough toast, followed by pan roasted pheasant and spelt risotto at Chequers in Bath. It worked beautifully. If you’re at home try it with meaty risotto.
