★ Good Wine Perhaps the wine is tiring a little as I’ve tasted this before and remember it being better. Nonetheless, the mix of phenolic green apple skins, sweet cured apple, and bittersweet pithy lemon make up a perfectly enjoyable dry Riesling and reflect the clean, poised style of the Clare Valley.

Ben Franks Wine Tasting Note Producer Profile

About the Producer

When Jim Barry sold part of his Florita, aka ‘Little Flower’, vineyard to the local artist Ian Sanders, he probably didn’t expect the Sanders’ newly formed clos Clare wines to become some of Australia’s most sought-after Rieslings. While the label still carries Sanders’ original design, the vineyard was purchased back into the Barry family by Jim’s son, Peter, and his wife Sue in 2007.

Jim Barry helped put Clare Valley wine region on the map, becoming the first qualified winemaker in oenology in 1947 and later founding his namesake winery in 1956. The winery is still family-owned today, passed to his son Peter and now managed by his grandchildren, third generation winemaker Tom Barry and his siblings Sam and Olivia.
